Crescendo Project

Crescendo Project – Promoting Growth Together

The Cincinnati Youth Choir is an educationally based choral program.  Using the philosophies and techniques of Carl Orff, Zoltan Kodaly, Jacques Dalcroze, and Jerome Brunner, participants learn healthy vocal technique, sight-reading, music history, and music theory while experiencing excellence in choral performance.  The learning environment is creative, explorative, and rewarding.   The students form lasting relationships with peers outside of their community and develop a lifelong appreciation of music.

An integral part of the CYC mission is to offer children of all backgrounds the opportunity to experience musical excellence in a creative environment.  A place where participants demonstrate the knowledge gained, experience a sense of accomplishment, and cultivate greater self-esteem.   The CYC staff and Board of Directors believe in the long-term effects of participating in musical excellence in a young person’s life.  Therefore, to support the efforts of music educators in the Greater Cincinnati community, the Crescendo Project strives to share these philosophies and techniques, supporting teachers and choral professionals in ways that best suit their individual needs and help them promote choral artistry in their region.

*Once an academic year, teachers, school districts, and arts organizations can benefit from these philosophies by bringing a CYC conductor into their program FREE OF CHARGE.  Educators may choose to receive one-on-one discussion and exploration or may choose to have the CYC specialist work with their children/choir.  The CYC specialist may be requested to share during a district wide teacher development workshop.  Possibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Classroom or grade level visit including a music lesson, game, or folk dance.
  • Guided singing activities with your students
  • Musical Games
  • Workshops for your school choir
  • Performance with the CYC
  • District-wide Choral Festivals
  • Concerts in your district
  • Reading sessions for your school district music teachers

To schedule a visit or explore possible collaborations with CYC’s Crescendo Project, please email Robyn Lana or call the CYC office at 513-556-0338.
