Amy is a National Teacher Trainer for Musikgarten, is the immediate past president of the Early Childhood Music and Movement Association (ECMMA) and serves on the Early Childhood Committee for the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy (NCKP). She completed her first early childhood music training with Dr. Lorna Heyge in the late 90’s and has been teaching the Musikgarten curriculum for over 20 years. She has taught piano since 1988. Amy holds degrees in Piano Performance, Music Education in Choral Conducting from The Ohio State University, and a masters in Piano Pedagogy from Southern Methodist University.. While at SMU, she studied piano with renowned concert artist, Joaquín Achúcarro. Upon completing her masters, she was hired full time with the SMU Meadows School of the Arts at SMU, where she taught piano pedagogy for six years. Mrs. Rucker spent many years teaching in the schools as a choir director and accompanist. While in Columbus, Ohio, Amy music directed multiple musicals, and in 2018 was voted Best Music Director by BroadwayWorld Columbus Awards. She directed the youngest choirs at Columbus International Children’s Choirs (CICC), has performed under the direction of Sir David Willcocks in Bern, Switzerland; Coventry, England and was the featured pianist for a choral and instrumental concert in Moscow, Russia. Amy comes to us most recently from Pittsburgh, where she was Adjunct Professor of Music Education at Duquesne University, teaching group piano to music majors, and supervising choral music education student teachers.
