Flipgrid Assignments- due by Tuesday, 10/20:

https://flipgrid.com/ea2741b9 – Barn Dance Vs. 1 & Body Percussion

10/6 Assignments- due by Tuesday, 10/13:
Parents, we spoke about this on Tuesday with all of our singers, but your child should have come home after the music pick up in September at Drake Park with an envelope with the music that can be found in the link above, and also a “menu” with “Mrs. Thornton’s Pie Shop” at the top. In addition to that should have been a packet of paper with various fruits (apples, pineapples, pumpkins, pieces of pie, etc) drawn in quadruplicate. Before next Tuesday, please have your child cut the fruit/pie pages in half lengthwise and width wise, so that each page generates four flashcards to use for future rehearsals.
Also, this week’s FlipGrid we ask that any singer who has not completed the previously assigned “Bright Spot” FlipGrid (https://flipgrid.com/f7f1926e), please do so by 10/13, as we are waiting on all of our singers to complete it so that we can begin a song writing project with the words that they share. The goal is to use their thoughts to create lyrics to a song that we will sing together. Please let us know if you are having trouble accessing FlipGrid through your child’s school email account.

9/15 flipgrid assignment:

It is as important to the team effort to appear professional and artistic as it is to sound professional and artistic.  Upon arrival at a concert venue, all singers should be clean and well-groomed with no obvious make-up, hair accessories, or hair colorsHair clips that match the color of the hair are permitted and only natural hair colors are permitted for performances.  Jewelry, earrings (except earring studs) and other accessories will not be permitted.  Perfume is not allowed because it can potentially cause allergic reactions in other singers.  If a singer does not dress properly, he/she may be excluded from the performance.

NEW Formal Uniforms

The new 2020-2021 formal uniform will be the Allegro CYC black t-shirt with GREEN logo and black dress pants, black dress shoes (flats with closed toe), and black socks.

T-shirts will be provided for free at the Material Pick up day event Sept. 13th at Daniel Drake Park Picnic Shelter from 1-6pm. Pants, socks, and shoes can be purchased at any clothing store.

For when we return to in person performances we are retiring the plaid uniforms for Piccolo Coro, Vivace, and Allegro Choirs, but keeping formal uniforms for Con Brio, Voci and Bel Canto.   All members of Piccolo Coro, Vivace & Allegro choirs will be required to have a CYC tie-dye shirt that will need to be purchased ($20) if they do not already have one.

Used Uniforms

When we return to in-person rehearsals, C3PO, CYC’s parent organization, will conduct a used uniform sale. Used uniform items will be available on a first-come basis.

Gently used Black slacks and uniform shoes may be donated to CYC and dropped off at the CYC Office during regular rehearsal times or at the Preparatory Department office during regular business hours.  We accept these items year-round.

CYC Spiritwear

CYC Spirit Wear can be purchased with cash or check only through CYC (limited sizes available), or by downloading the CYC Spiritwear Order Form and providing it to Rachel Breeden by no later than November 4th for delivery in early December.

Attendance Policies

Cincinnati Youth Choir is an award-winning, nationally and internationally respected choral organization. It provides a unique experience to all singers and requires a high level of commitment and responsibility. Each child is independently important to the success of the program. Just as with any other team effort, the success of the choir is reliant on the consistent attendance of all of its members.

Mandatory Rehearsals and Performances

All rehearsals and performances are mandatory unless otherwise indicated on the choir calendar. An absence for any reason from a final rehearsal (“dress rehearsal”) may result in the singer being excluded from the following concert and is up to the discretion of the conductor.

Attendance Requirements and Notification Procedures

In order to be excused, the Director of Programs, Rachel Breeden, must be notified by a written note, email (rbreeden@cincinnatichoir.org ), or voicemail (513-556-0338) as soon as possible prior to the rehearsal. Mrs. Breeden will notify your child’s conductor.  Excuses should include the child’s name, choir your child sings in, reason for dismissal or tardiness, and the parent’s contact information. Notes without a stated reason will be considered unexcused.

Excused Absence From Rehearsals and Performances:

A choir member may be considered excused for:

  • Illness
  • Death in the family or family emergency
  • Conflict with a mandatory school performance/commitment
  • CYC members are expected to treat school performances as a priority over a CYC performance unless otherwise negotiated between a CYC conductor and the school director. School performances are identified as performances for which a grade in school will be given (orchestra, band, choir concert); not an extracurricular activity (school plays, musicals etc.).

If an unforeseen complication has come up on the day of a performance (not a rehearsal), please contact Rachel Breeden, Director of Programs, immediately by calling 566-0338. Your child’s unexpected absence will require alterations in the ensemble, which will need to be revised as soon as possible by the conductor.

As much as CYC supports a child’s need to maintain good grades and receive a good education, we cannot regularly accept homework as an excused absence from rehearsals and never from performances. Singers should plan ahead.

All written absence notification regarding performance conflicts will be reviewed by the staff on an individual basis and determined “excused” or “unexcused” based on the degree the absence would compromise the choir and its performance and/or the conflict expressed.

Weather Policies

If the University closes, the information will be announced on all media outlets. In addition, we will issue a notice on the website, through e-mails, on the CYC Facebook pages, and via text through Remind101.

CYC also reserves the right to cancel rehearsals when the University remains open but staff members have a concern about the safety of choir members and families en route.
